What a treat. His photos came out great and it was super special to see him since he came up from his new home in Los Angeles for the occasion. Thank you so much, Eugene.

Travis and I got appropriately dressed for the ride -- Travis sported a tuxedo jersey and I wore a customized white jersey with lace and helmet veil. It was a hoot to celebrate with our cycling friends, family (my sister and dad rode on rented bikes which was just plain awesome) and even the strangers along the way who got excited by the idea of it all!

And here, in a photo story, was the ride. From Golden Gate Bridge to the tip top peak of Mt. Tam and home.

The Crawfords awaiting our arrival at the Golden Gate Bridge:

The gang starts to arrive:

Group Shot (including family that didn't ride, but saw us off). We stepped outside our comfort zone to help out a local women's based wedding collective, Locally Grown Weddings, focused on sustainable all things wedding in the Bay Area. They are updating their site and wanted some real couples to pose for photo shoots.

We spent a sunny Sunday in April getting dressed up and shooting photos around our neighborhood. We'll admit -- is was awkward. But we're glad we stepped up to the adventure.

The photos are now on the collective's website.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 132px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPz5lr9m7gH4E25kDkag3s6cdV5FLRzlQKqLBuyjhQYeejc5XK8V_Z4UddfXU0ysNOPoQUJNBLyrbmAp1aMc0J3RhaJbWpd2Kn2Qw4jhNGkE32AS7yeWhBOjavGQIRJ4Wmk4mbYmLY3_U/s200/dolores+park.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5662446241102792226" />
And they were also picked up by a wedding blog. How funny!

More real photos from our wedding weekend to come...

Photo credit: Aurora MeneghelloUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-64999135543863056012011-10-06T18:55:00.001-07:002011-10-06T19:09:28.893-07:00Wedding Day DinnerAfter we got married at San Francisco City Hall and took photos at the Golden Gate Bridge, we took our families to our favorite pizza place, Pauline's Pizza.

Not only did we have dinner at Pauline's after our first date (and closed the place down), but we visit so often, we have a favorite table and especially favorite servers. We rented out a room for our dinner so we had a fun, cozy atmosphere to chat with family during dinner and host the awesome slide show our moms coordinated and put together.

Such a fun evening of delicious food (signature pizzas and butterscotch pudding!) to close out one of the most memorable days of our life.

Here are some of our favorite photos from the dinner. It's been weeks and we've got a lot more to share from our Big Day and honeymoon.

Where were we? Oh yeah -- after we got hitched at City Hall, our families joined us on a shuttle bus and we headed to one of our favorite San Francisco spots -- and an iconic one at that -- the Golden Gate Bridge for some photos.

We've biked over the Golden Gate Bridge hundreds of times. It's the gateway to some of our favorite times spent together on our bikes so it was fitting to incorporate it into our truly San Francisco Big Day.

In typical San Francisco summer style, there was some fog and it was a bit chilly. We cuddled together for some quick photos as our family bundled up inside the Warming Hut (until it closed). It was fun to get some photos and share the views with our loved ones from out of town.

Here are a few of our favorite shots (photo credit to Pamela Palma unless otherwise noted):

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/amoderngirl/6215884359/" title="<3 by a modern girl, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6057/6215884359_65ac41ce8b.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="<3">

photo credit: Lauryn Morris

photo credit: Lauryn MorrisUnknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-33646713045978915232011-07-28T19:37:00.001-07:002011-07-28T19:56:30.001-07:00Just Married!We were hitched without a hitch last Friday. (This is really happening!)

On Sunday, Travis' older brother Luke flew in from NYC and Travis' parents, Ray and Mamie, flew in from Ohio. Unfortunately, we have to work through today, so it's been up to them to entertain themselves in SF.

Ray and Mamie invited us to their flat rental in Noe Valley for dinner last night. It was fun to visit and hear about their day wandering the Academy of Sciences, The Japanese Tea Garden and the outside of the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. I've decided to add some simple elements to spruce up the dinner after our ceremony. We've reserved a private room at Pauline's Pizza and I'm using the lower photo below as inspiration for the tables -- simple, classic and comfortable.

I reserved the book Handmade Weddings from Hello Lucky (the same company that did our invitations), months ago at the San Francisco Public Library. I finally received a notice it was available about 2 weeks ago so I marched over to check it out. So cute and inspiring! Of course I don't have the time to do most of the projects, but I did decide to go for the yarn bombed vase centerpieces this weekend:

On Saturday, I headed to the nearby Thrift Town and Goodwill to see what types of vases and votives I could track down. I managed to find 4 similar vases at Thrift Town and 14 votives at Goodwill. Score! I also visited a local knitting store and purchased some bright orange (Ojai Orange) yarn and the drug store for double-sided tape.

Lauryn stopped by again on her way out of town last night so I asked if she was up for a project. She was game and turned out to be the perfect craft partner with her amazing attention to detail and background in design. We got to work!

It took us a while to get the hang of working with yarn, curvy glass and double-sided tape. After a while, we got the hang of it and perfected a technique utilizing all 4 of our hands and joked that we were an efficient human weaving vase loom.

In all, we were super impressed with how the vases turned out. They look sharp and well done. Many thanks to Lauryn's diligence to detail! In all, this project took about 3 hours and cost $17. Travis, on the other hand, has extended beyond his comfort zone for a crash course in the dizzying array of tasks involved in event planning and we've both tackled our to-do lists pretty faithfully.

We've hired vendors to help out or execute the different needs for the ceremony day and ride/party day. Without their help, we wouldn't have our wedding weekend. We're pretty excited about the group we've curated. Let's introduce you to a few:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCf8ba2ANdiY-o13gUPGfRA6pf__JHzVnURQId1KuepQR1Wm0U8Ib5kiwbdQXx1j0HHF0OcHxd5ceQPkZ0Zvrudvu9OLtFI9B0PXqwGAsMDuW-j1jRlt9tIHrZsgY2oAkw4WX7OEbCZeE/s200/rich.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624610462368000258" />My father has a history of officiating family weddings and is "ordained" by the Universal Life Church. He married my sister, Kathryn, and brother-in-law, Brian, in 2000 and my cousin Ryan and his wife, Jessica a few years ago. He's also officiating my cousin Lauryn and her fiance Tyler's wedding in September. The thing is, I'm a cryer so it is an absolute guarantee I would bawl through a ceremony officiated by my father. So we turned to a more neutral source -- the internet -- and landed on Reverend Rich. We contacted him, had a conversation over Skype and signed a contract. Right now we're working through the details of our vows. He's also helped us structure the format of our ceremony hour which has been helpful.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 45px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz_Y8v755GUJRY1gfZcBn_HOi5RPgOoyUWqept7_KhWMLFwX_SmjnAxTz611bxtOKIihTrgc7AOR6vttVOL7KzbUAsgGvb9Ptpx_Wf5t8st24bGIg9jGZNEh0S3_st-jLHFKWQcSNLgrY/s200/lilyspruce.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624613818865015154" />We needed a day-of planner to handle the hour-by-hour logistics -- especially the party set-up while Travis and I are out on our bike ride. Enter Genevieve from Lily Spruce. I actually know Genevieve from her work with the Breast Cancer Fund, LUNA's non-profit beneficiary so I knew she would be a great fit. When we were six weeks out and still didn't have a caterer lined up, we realized we needed some extra help. Genevieve is helping us navigate our last big to-do items (read: securing a caterer for our party with 3 weeks to spare!) and even small details like design direction. We super appreciate her help as we work on wedding stuff in what seems to be all of our non-work hours.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 126px; height: 125px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnjqk0FhHAQKVkBzs82NyhD2gI5t9k30ubY58EZ9DegvViQ6J2pzfrb7b80ubymywvJbzvsfTnoA9DzIfNhH1C9LKRcdug8XTvPmKx_9EtaEbKKLrX3zoYVK7SfXBrR6GzT15PIRu4R9g/s200/Bi+Rite.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624615186656185954" /> As of noon today, we have confirmed our caterer for our party. Genevieve, Travis and I have been biting our nails trying to lock in this major to-do item. We're excited to work with Bi Rite because they have super delicious local, sustainable food and they're a sponsor of our bike club, Mission Cycling. With Bi Rite confirmed, we know the food and service will be totally dialed in.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 136px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI9tib2MSPux3QlJC4csiGoSdy6YxKPl83_l3yElN4OUn139V0807h9h0z-rRLJjviCUZdMKQUDJbw0ej2VaeXI59EpxDV5KundQc55m7hax7wSEdEYB96Wm4gnAev3Ug9hUJLwaZDHig/s200/flower+and+gold.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624616430175204930" />As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm going with Ashley and Alexia from Flower & Gold for hair and make up -- mostly because I lack much experience in creativity with either. We challenged Pamela with an aggressive shoot schedule to get our Chix in action throughout the weekend. Amazingly, Pamela not only covered the event producing great photos, but she got to know a lot of the women and truly embody the spirit of the weekend. We're pretty excited she agreed to shoot our wedding, as she's usually out at bike races taking awesome action shots. She's also a pretty bad-ass cyclist herself.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 82px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6TPpO7XTWbzOizJuZkxzsh3CKU3HFYlZG6QnARkt9QC9d_-Np9nO_XiYuiPMY272uu4NYm3bPu4_yL5wMAwoMEI9nyN1MSpnJi9ORT74ouZ3ciXDEpIQ1Mqc5l_KNle8LfYvfQPi-S_4/s200/tan+a+la+mode.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5624619865115905698" />So... Pop Sugar offered a deal a while ago that my coworkers Abby and Christine encouraged I try -- a mobile spray tan company. The deal was pretty reasonable so I tried it out this week to give the spray tan thing one more shot (several people told me I needed to only spray the "white zones" versus all over). Emily, from Tan A La Mode, showed up at my house after work at 6, popped up her super tall tent in my living room and got to work. She was super helpful and went to work on my funky tanlines. Not only did she make me feel comfortable and get in and out of my house in 30 minutes -- but the tan worked -- on my arms at least! It's great! Everyone has been super impressed and I'm going to go for it again about 2 days before the Big Day. And the best thing about them? I don't have to go anywhere -- they come to me!

I've also got some amazing help from some friends:
-Jen, a friend from carpool at work, has graciously offered to manage our flower decor at the party.
-Suzy & Jason are providing the homebrew TNT Dynamite Brew at our wedding.
-Our dear friend Eugene, who we met through Mission Cycling and has since moved to L.A. is driving up and bringing his bike and camera along. He's going to be our bike-ride photographer and shoot photos from the bike. He did an amazing end-of-summer bike photo series a couple of years ago I absolutely love.
-My parents have been incredibly generous is helping us pull off our party. We tremendously appreciate their willingness to work with our vision and help make it a reality!

So with 3 weeks to go, we're in a great place and getting pretty darn excited the Big Day is almost here. Heck yeah!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-947717995648726612011-06-30T22:03:00.000-07:002011-07-04T08:25:07.870-07:00Visitin'Our wedding is in 3 weeks (tomorrow!), but we've been lucky to see some of our favorite people before they come out for our wedding. What's better than seeing them once in a month? Seeing them twice in one month!

Travis' older brother, Luke, came out to San Francisco for work last week and stayed with us before and after his work week. It was great to host him, visit, cook dinner, eat out and explore the city together. Travis and Luke even got some bro time, heading out to a local bar and catching up. We know some of the magic of San Francisco rubbed off on Luke and we continue to work on him to move out here from NYC. We'll see!

Right before Luke left, we took a morning hike to Bernal Hill. I'd never actually been to the top before. We were finally having beautiful weather so it was fun to feel the sun on our backs, look over some clear amazing vistas of SF and remind Luke that this was certainly not typical summer weather!

And tonight, my cousin Lauryn flew in from Lousiville for her close friend's wedding in Napa this weekend. The rest of her friends fly in tomorrow morning so we're hosting her here tonight. I met up with her after work and we caught up over a fun city hike. We decided to check out our reception venue over in Noe Valley. Along the way, Lauryn, took lots of photos and we talked about both of our pending weddings (Lauryn is getting married in 2 months in NY!).

We then met up with Travis for dinner at our favorite Indian burrito joint, Kasa. It was one of those things we figured we'd just get to. I had a packed week last week so I had to cancel my sewing class to make time to get to the jewelry shop.

Chabo's was one of the 3 jewelers we visited when selecting my engagement ring. Initially I was overwhelmed by the array of options available -- they specialize in custom jewelry -- so we ended up buying my engagement ring at Dianne's Estate Jewelry.

Travis, though, fell for the Tungsten carbide rings at Chabo's because they look cool and are "from the future." Since Travis was set on a Tungsten carbide ring from Chabo's, I figured I'd look again at the simple band options they had at the same time.

So we headed to the SOMA neighborhood to meet up after work. Chabo's is located in the basement of a huge building. We had to get buzzed in by security, head down to the basement and through a maze of hallways to the shop.

We sat down and looked at bands for me first. I found a super thin, simple band I liked but, again overwhelmed by the possibilities to customize the band with a small band of diamonds, we switched to looking at bands for Travis.

Travis tried on a variety of metals, sizes and finishes. He landed at a quite manly and lovely Tungsten carbide ring. Nice!

Then it was decision time for me. We landed on a simple design to mirror my engagement ring -- a small band of mini diamonds with an accent (similar to my engagement ring) on either end.

We ordered our rings and we're now waiting to hear back on when we need to head in to pick them up. Exciting!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-74149804638615075732011-06-28T18:51:00.000-07:002011-06-28T20:01:14.209-07:00Lookin' GoodSpoiler Alert! Travis has asked that he not know any details of my “look” for the Big Day. So Travis, if you are reading this – go away!

For the rest of you…

After our faux-wedding photo shoot (in which we looked like funny versions of ourselves – and I had mega makeup galore), Travis has repeatedly asked me to, "Just look like yourself” for our Big Day.

I plan to look like myself, but I still need a little help getting dolled up on the Big Day. My coworker, Claire, recommended I connect with her hairdresser, Ashley. Not only does Ashley style hair by day, but she also co-runs a hair/makeup business on the side with her pal Alexia called Flower & Gold.

I emailed Ashley and explained my vision for the Big Day: simple, but not my everyday. And by “not my everyday” I mean actually wearing make up and having my hair styled.

She was game and we set up a hair and make up preview appointment which means I headed to Ashley’s salon, Population for a preview of what to expect the day of the wedding. I LOVE this idea. Not only was I able to communicate over email and in person my vision for my look to Ashley and Alexia, but we actually got to do a trial run so there aren’t any surprises.

Before my preview appointment, I sent Ashley my Pinterest style board for hair. I didn’t really know what I wanted so I did my homework and found some cool looks.

When I showed up, Ashley and Alexia were super sweet, made me feel comfortable and set to work on my simple and styled look. My hair is falling out a little (we’ll fix that for the Big Day!), but this is a sneak peak at the final look. What do you think?

I’m not used to this type of attention and while it’s nice to get dolled up, it’s a lot of work! I’m glad I have some experts to help me out.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-57888375071998115202011-06-27T19:29:00.000-07:002011-06-27T21:20:06.900-07:00TnT Dynamite BrewWhen I told my coworker Suzy about our plan to have a day-after wedding reception for friends and family, she quickly offered up the homebrew services of her husband, Jason. I don’t know if Jason knew what he was getting roped into, but it sounded awesome – a specialized homebrew at our lowkey reception!

At Suzy’s assurance that Jason was game, she brought homebrew samples into work a few times for me to bring home to Travis. I’m not a big beer drinker so it was up to Travis to taste, savor and select a type of beer. Travis gave the greenlight to Jason’s Porter. At this point, we’d heard that Jason had won a local homebrew contest and knew we were in good hands.

Suzy and Jason invited us over to help with the brewing process so we penciled in the Sunday over Memorial Day weekend.

Travis and I don’t own a car so we decided to turn the event into a century bike ride. Suzy and Jason live in Petaluma which is 51 miles from our house. We set out at 7 a.m. in the morning and, after a stop halfway in Fairfax for a snack, we got to Suzy and Jason’s house a bit before noon.

We parked our bikes, checked out Suzy and Jason’s lovely home and Jason’s amazing homebrew set up. Travis and Jason got to brew bro stuff and Suzy and I chatted, checked out the goats in the neighborhood and ordered lunch. We got to eat some Old Chicago Pizza and I even took a nap! Travis and Jason pretty much spent the whole time geeking out over beer stuff. After a 5 hour visit we got on our bikes around 5 p.m. and pedaled home.

Riding home in the last afternoon/evening was a fun change of pace with few riders on the roads, amazing light and beautiful views. We made it to the Golden Gate Bridge at dusk and only had to use our super lights the last 45 minutes. 102 miles in the bag!

It was a perfect day on the bike – and visiting with friends.

We look forward to tasting the final brew at our reception!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-79577789507779593002011-06-22T21:47:00.000-07:002011-06-22T22:08:03.309-07:00And... We're Back... Kinda!So it's been a little quiet over here lately.

Mostly because life has been happening too fast to document!

Never fear, though, because next week we're hosting a wedding post sweep week. We'll have 5 posts next week -- one everyday Monday through Friday! That's right. A lot has happened in the wedding planning department and it's time to share!

We're off to Malibu to participate in a the Grand Tour bike ride (Tina - double century - 200 miles, Travis metric century -125 miles) this weekend. Luckily the drive there and back is looong. It'll give us plenty of time to write the posts!

We'll see you soon!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-79068369801752586032011-05-30T17:50:00.000-07:002011-05-30T18:08:30.525-07:00Spray Tanning: The UpdateSo in one of my earlier posts I mentioned my pretty distinctive tan lines due to cycling and my desire to minimize them for the Big Day.

Well, upon my mom's consultation with some friends of hers, she recommended I go with airbrush spray tanning. She found some local options thanks to Yelp and I called up to make a reservation at one in the Marina (SF neighborhood).

The whole process was painless. I showed up, stripped down and went into a shower type stall and was spray-tanned all over by a personal air-brusher. She aimed for the whiter areas, but sprayed all over. Afterwards, I stood in front of a fan to dry faster and then changed into black clothes and headed out.

I met up with my best friend Leila afterwards for dinner. Nothing was very obvious, but I felt sticky and optimistic. We caught up, chowed down and I headed home -- trying to dodge the light rain since I was told this was no good for the spray tan.

I couldn't take a shower for at least 6 hours so I just headed to bed with visions of an all body consistent tan as I drifted to sleep.

I guess it takes 2 days for the tan to absorb completely. But, it just didn't work. Not the day after or 2 or more (the photo above is at work 2 days later). My tan lines were just as clear, though I had an overall bronze-y glow.

Needless to say, I'm glad I gave it a trial run. But I'm bummed. I want a one-stop solve. Now it's back to square one. I'm going to explore the rub-in tan that gradually deepens. I'll also work on moving my jersey and short lengths around to blend the transition from tan to white a bit more (right now I have very distinctive linear lines). And in the end, if nothing really works, well -- the two-tone complexion will always be a reminder of how much fun we have together on our bikes (awwwww).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-74626813158569379672011-05-25T07:50:00.000-07:002011-05-25T08:15:16.284-07:00Super Secret Date NightTravis and I have "date night" every Monday night. That means we aim to get home by 7 p.m., make a meal together, eat and then hang out a bit together before going to bed. These are low key, but I look forward to them because it's a time we carve out for just us during our sometimes chaotic weeks.

I decided recently, though, to surprise Travis with a Super Secret Date Night. Last night was the SSDN! I'd been slowly building up the suspense in the past few days asking if he was excited, how he should be excited and how "I didn't know" if any of the guesses he came up with were at all close to the real thing (volunteering at a cook-off, a show at a local venue, dinner at a fancy restuarant, etc.).

Yesterday I texted Travis at 4:00 p.m. with the address he needed to be at by 6:30 p.m. with instructions to "come hungry and no looking up what resides at the address." I could tell he was excited and playing along because he asked for the cross street so he wouldn't have to look at Google and get too many clues.

I ended up meeting up with Travis just before 6:30 p.m. He was rattling off how he just couldn't imagine what we were up to in the NoPa (North of the Panhandle) neighborhood.

I told him we were heading to dinner first -- that this wasn't the BIG surprise. As we approached Nopalito, his eyes lit up. Time to eat! He ordered some carnitas and I the enchiladas. Yum!

We had some time to spare before the BIG surprise so I suggested we grab dessert. Luckily, we found a lovely dessert bar, Candy Bar, to satisfy my chocolate cake craving! While savoring the flourless chocolate cake and raspberry sorbet, I figured it was time to finally reveal what we were going to do for our SSDN!

I pulled out of my bag a printout and handed it to Travis. Here is his reaction as he read it:

"Fire Escape Planting!" he read. Yep, we were headed to a 2 hour class on planting our own herb planters. He looked up with a look. I laughed. We had a gardener recently come weed out our jungle of a backyard. Travis had instructed her to plant some herbs as well. When I heard that (since I'd already booked our SSDN), I told him absolutely not. He tried to ask questions, but I just told him we couldn't do that right now. He knew something was up and I could tell he was frustrated. He gets it now!

So we were off! Our class was held at the Workshop, a DIY craft studio in San Francisco. Naya from Fire Escape Farms was our instructor and super laid back and helpful. She started by telling us some basics about potting and feeding plants. And then we got down to business!

First, we got to plant some basil, thyme and sage into our pre-made recycled wooden planters:

Lookin' good!

Then, we planted seeds to grow our own lettuce/green mixes:

We got all of our questions answered, rolled up our sleeves, got dirty and went home with 4 new planters! It was great!

Travis is in charge of watering the herbs/greens. We're excited to start adding some fresh, organic edibles to our meals.

BTW... we have a lot of wedding updates so stay tuned!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-44059568400108445842011-05-11T21:10:00.000-07:002011-05-13T13:20:31.491-07:00A Cycling Life -- 2011 Goals, a Honeymoon & TanlinesMost of you know that I like to bike -- a lot. As in, for miles and miles on end. There is something about spending the day outside with friends, tackling some major mountains on your own power and then heading home for a tasty meal and falling into bed happy exhausted.

Luckily, Travis understands. We met through our bike club and our favorite weekend activity is to head out on bike dates. Lately, we've both stepped up to the cycling goals we've set for ourselves this year.

<img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5221/5655970347_d8bdf0cd45_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Sweethearts <3 Mad Marchness">

Travis and I hope to go on a 9 day cycling honeymoon through the Alps in September from Geneva to Nice. It involves climbing like we've never seen, but is exactly the type of trip that makes our eyes sparkle with excitement -- and our calves twitch in anticipation. We're not really beach folks and we don't idle well so an (epically) active honeymoon adventure is up our alley.

Travis is 100% back on the bike after his recovery from his broken clavicle and subsequent surgery in September and is already training for our pending honeymoon with early morning hill repeats and back-to-back weekend rides.

Biking is more like another part time job on top of my regular full time job. I try to get in 2 spin classes during the week, along with strength/core training twice a week at my work's gym. And then I aim to get on my bike for anywhere from 100-175 miles on the weekends.

In addition to our honeymoon, I've lined up what I call my "ATP" or Aggressive Training Plan. My best friend and riding buddy, Kelly, and I are tackling Furnace Creek 508 this year (this will be my third time and second time with Kelly) which is a 509 miles ride through Death Valley. Kelly and I will tagteam and have the support of my sister and Travis in a crew vehicle.

To prep, Kelly and I are tackling 4 double centuries (200 miles in one day) and the famous Death Ride. I hope to throw in an additional double century after Furnace Creek for good measure. Anyway, our first double of the season is this weekend in Paso Robles, CA and will help us gauge our fitness and whether or not our ATP is appropriate or insane.

While all of this will get me in great shape for our honeymoon, there is a side effect to all the riding -- and that is the infamous cycling tanlines. Since I usually train year round, I have perpetual cycling tan lines -- feet, legs and arms. In general, I avoid any type of strappy shoe since it just looks like I'm wearing socks and try to pretend my arm tan lines aren't as strong as they are. If I must wear girly shoes, I actually (no joke!) put make up on my feet to even it out.

<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4144/5051462520_dd668909b8_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="<3">

I don't want to wear make up on my feet and I don't want to look like I'm wearing a sweater with my dress on my wedding day so next week I'm trying spray tanning. It's an experiment to see if we can even out my tan lines which will only get stronger with 3 double centuries and the Death Ride between now and our wedding!

And if the spray tan doesn't work -- then I'll have to be OK with it cuz it won't stop me from riding up a storm!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-88902212021134832562011-04-25T20:24:00.001-07:002011-04-25T20:47:28.246-07:00Invites: Months in the MakingWhen I first got engaged, a friend pulled me aside and told me that there are a lot of expenses in a wedding and, in order to stay sane, to ignore all of the hoopla -- except for one thing. She told me to focus in on one thing that was important and splurge. She said I'll be glad I did.

Well, I decided I wanted cute custom letterpress invitations. I mean, we are only inviting family, so it couldn't possibly cost that much. Well, folks, yes it can! Once I processed the sticker shock, I decided letterpress was out, as was a totally custom design.

Luckily, I found a very lovely San Francisco themed invitation through Hello Lucky. Sure, the letterpress version was well out of reasonable price range, but the digital version was OK and I couldn't resist the quirky, simple theme.

Even though the invites aren't a custom design, I felt like there was enough decision-making involved as it was. Paper type, ink color, wording, envelope color, label color, etc. I set up a time for Travis and I to visit Hello Lucky in person. They're right here in San Francisco, so we swung by after work one Friday.

We had a lovely and short appointment where Stewey helped us out even though we weren't going full custom. He pointed us in the right direction and gave us some take home samples. We also got to see the letterpress(es) in action!

We headed home and that weekend committed to the purchase of invites, RSVP cards and labels. Luckily, we'd already asked our moms (thanks, moms!) to compile addresses of all family invited. I make it sound easy. It actually took months to get our addresses together, but, in the end, I'm so glad we had labels made for us. It helped round out the look of the invites!

Hello Lucky is an online stationary shop so we customized and ordered all online. Travis was in charge!

After numerous proofs, exchanges with the very patient Lillian at HL and final confirmations, we finally received our invitations about a month or so later. It was very exciting to open up our box and see the invitations in real life.

We purchased cheesy ring stamps (they were out of the King/Queen of Hearts stamps -- darn!), affixed and mailed off our lovely invitations last week, 3 months to the day before our Big Day! While we didn't really splurge on the invites, I'm glad we spent so much time on them. They turned out perfect.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-88788177316486910142011-04-12T20:34:00.001-07:002011-04-12T20:52:05.544-07:00Stepping Outside Our Comfort ZoneSo we had a wedding photo shoot on Sunday -- except it wasn't for our wedding. A friend of a friend needs some shots to showcase her green wedding cooperative and Ryan, who was with us on the day we met, asked if we'd be interested.

This is not something we'd be into upon first glance. However, I figured it would give us some good insight into the whole wedding thing and some good contacts. I volunteered us. We chalked up the experience to trying something new -- an adventure!

We can't talk too much about the experience, but hair was done (lotsa hairspray and bobby pins for me - slicked back for Travis) and makeup applied (yep, fake eyelashes). Travis got a bow tie, wore his actual wedding suit and I wore a borrowed wedding dress. We both had borrowed rings and shoes. Photos were taken in all varieties at Dolores Park, 24th Street and City Hall.

The weather was seemingly perfect. Until we had to stand outside in it for hours. Anyone that knows San Francisco knows that sunny days are not necessarily warm days. Everyone was super accommodating and sweet, but boy was I glad to get into a warm steamy shower at the end of the day and stop shivering!

Travis and I don't necessarily like to be the center of attention so we were definitely outside of our comfort zone. There was a lot of awkward and stiff posing, but the photo shoot team was gracious and embraced our square selves.

All in all, Travis and I agree it was an interesting experience and we'll get some fun photos out of it. We won't be modeling again soon, though -- that's checked off our life lists! It was also fun to place wedding dress up a few months before the Big Day!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-57502575204729276712011-03-28T17:59:00.000-07:002011-03-28T18:16:28.429-07:00Celebration TimeWe've been quiet over here due to crazy work schedules and dual birthdays.

But we've still been getting some wedding stuff done. More to come on that later.

This past week was especially special because Travis and I both turned 30! I didn’t really have a plan for getting my dress. I just knew I wanted something white, above the knee and at little cost.

I actually went to a bridesmaid boutique on my own, but left feeling frustrated by the cold and frankly, bitchy, saleswoman. So, when my carpool-mates from work insisted on taking me out dress shopping, I figured they just may know what they’re doing.

They made an appointment at a local bridal and bridesmaid boutique, Bella Bridesmaid, in San Francisco and also made a reservation for lunch afterwards at a local gourmet vegetarian restaurant, Greens. It was great – I just had to show up!

We arrived just after 11 and we were given free reign over the available dresses. They’re a small boutique, but they had a good selection of simple dresses. The bridesmaid dresses come in a variety of colors so I tried some of those on, too.

I tried on a variety of dresses, but nothing quite worked. This one was cute, but I felt more like I was going to prom than a wedding:

And I gave long dresses a shot. I confirmed that long just isn't my thing.

And this one would be good for a cocktail party, but not the wedding.

Near the end of the session, I finally found The Dress. Here is a tease of the upper hem line:

I won’t debut it until the Big Day, but it met my vision of romantic, vintage-y, cute and with a hint of one of our wedding colors. Plus, it was under $400! The girls and I agreed – this was it. I said yes to the dress!

I ordered and paid for the dress on the spot. It’ll arrive sometime in May and then I’ll need to get some alterations to bring it above the knee.

We then headed off to lunch to celebrate. What a successful and fun morning. Many thanks to my gals Jen and Abby for organizing!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-46897586019851862082011-03-06T20:31:00.000-08:002011-03-06T21:19:48.994-08:00Time to Register<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirXAIp3swOSAP1_ilV26J7eXdgrD4-WRl7UCpgD37t_wlAR9NwOHv8eANqngzGUS2ogDepnhLcciNMdS7kH_hoS4ZDEY0jWE3-q8umsfQJXDqhngGOp0Mjl4u1aUF20xQ_C1gA8KeUpXQ/s200/IMG_0505.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581193885947395538" />
Travis and I weren't sure what to make of the whole registry thing. First of all, we really just want to celebrate with friends and family so we have no expectations for loads of gifts. On the other hand, we don't want to end up with 3 rice cookers (No joke! This actually happened to a friend of a friend).

We abstractly thought we knew what we'd like to round out our new home, but when we actually sat down to create a list for our registry, we were all over the place. It's actually a lot of work!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjds7ElJhAdOUbfV90wDyFznj1nvFYTMRmfUo7QhsLfX9jmRivY0w_sB872rC_n-FB7PimSqU90QlNK9EuVe1Fao881IRnHN41OR7Xk_2RbljFJktLt89XdPpx9jo_DEW4mWsHKnwDVEfo/s200/IMG_0503.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581195476802092386" />
I decided to sign us up for one of Crate and Barrel's wedding registry parties. Sure, it's a great marketing tactic -- open the doors to your store early for brides- and grooms-to-be and arm them with the tools to ask everyone they know to buy presents for their registry from your store! But, frankly, we don't want our wedding to consume us too much and this seemed like an easy way to add some staples to our wish list and check this item off our to-do list.

We arrived just after 9 a.m. on Sunday a couple weeks ago. We were greeted by cheerful and helpful Crate and Barrel salespeople. The store didn't open to the public until 11 a.m. so we had two hours to browse the store with other registering couples. We checked in, received our hand held registry scanners (Travis suggested an iPhone app replace the registry scanner) and headed straight for the coffee.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn30Tcg6g-g4FWB37iJmBxkxIx7k8l8l4V_G36vlUhXtNOYptj4VQwSYBLKBCSodhxtevwxmdn1f3NGl2cMay4KEk5AjMZqj7IUauM5gyqZ_UWC-tqW3lXLLqZ7blEQRVZDX7rKg-fWFI/s200/IMG_0500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581196231149225634" />
That's the thing. They also had coffee, mimosas, juice and breakfast treats scattered throughout the store -- which is 3 stories! We had to amble upstairs to track down the coffee, but this allowed us to get the lay of the land. We headed back downstairs and got scanning!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp_sF3QdV9zPd_qhnVi_UTa4aycVR8fHpVF2RhIYh4UGcgCrd0iWYYtP89BzZ6CpAdP7toLTc0APa4er96QLDZNqJAH1b3PotUNQhWs-Ch2Wybpz3Jagj_-2kQ9HVeskOlbLpIuVxYBe0/s200/IMG_0501.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581195906990867154" />
The morning was actually pretty fun and helpful for us to understand what the scope of things we wanted (entertaining party trays -- no; Kitchen Aid mixer -- heck yeah). We were also able to scan things on site and then change quantities, colors or even the item itself later online.

The salespeople were also super helpful. We had a lot of questions and they helped us navigate the store and the different specs for everything.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnUJkpMVd2vHTXkhDG5HTE_bN5al4uif8EDzZv2XWBlLTSXN_JnCKL5gLY39A4EQ4zhkYrxH25_Rbe6duVyGDMAIMxYgRhRFvG29Nrf9dSUbKkoC0rG-vdhm6akcIyJxR3-buTbseuCRA/s200/IMG_0504.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581196513152690802" />
When we were done, we uploaded our registry right there in the store. We got about half of the items on our wish list scanned at Crate and Barrel. That's pretty good for one morning!

We've set up the rest of our wish list items through a universal registry online. It feels good to have this step wrapped up (well, for the most part -- Travis has some more items he hopes to add in upcoming weeks).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5214981253110985984.post-7877313674213858702011-02-26T09:18:00.000-08:002011-02-26T09:41:47.131-08:00Lookin' Good<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRSwb_Bj4qsGCYG5EkYZu3vdrKruuG4l6WGvIr5V3JlJ2ZHo24yRJ_ZBTKBzz3Ar7m1fObqDz-hcj4Oxq6tEBVaxNBavlyQDxqg8D9Lua1kehpejRCFrX_w7MxeXvr1GmmCFwhT_Fj1Rg/s200/IMG_0493.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578053709422653426" />
Last weekend, Travis and I braved the downpour to go suit shopping. We decided that it's good for him to have a suit on hand in general and he'll also use it for the wedding.
We went to J. Crew downtown and took some time checking out the different suit styles, fabrics and colors of suits. We also did some online research the night before. J. Crew has a really great feature on their website that not only shows their suits, but has a video of models walking around in the suits. It really helped us understand the nuances between the suits. We were pretty much sold on the Ludlow.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvoLWeP00JJtXFqls7mwK1CMEFy_HSBXIJykvSg7ZiZnt-6hvmyGWbWTZwdg4O0fRUEvKXh0vcf9Fo_hEVklht1gSWzyxYn99dCjTgUWYXYto9tKqxhPldm244EZKr5tJtm0BjiDwewxg/s200/IMG_0499.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578053121079066450" />
Anyway, when we got to J. Crew the staff was super helpful in selecting the right style. We had to use a little imagination because they didn't have the exact color/sizing Travis wanted on hand. After much trying on and some needed input/education from the saleswoman about fabrics/suit-sizing, we went with the Ludlow in charcoal. Travis purchased the jacket, vest and pants via the catalog so we didn't actually get to walk out with the threads.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiqEnMoQgCsQ9tM58Vy7nr4zpiQkBHBKuzU3edJMtDl7p6wjLhUmbANoZmvrUaiWiHcJ4ffbCY7yvGsXQWPMwo65gUMBO0h7ITyN5ROWtrEptkLo-Guoi4EkNtWmZk2HuERLk2ev58zgs/s200/IMG_0490.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578053339234242018" />
When he got home last night, Travis had already received the full suit in the mail! My best friend Leila was over so we demanded an on-the-spot preview. Leila works in planning in menswear at The Gap and, while I was pleased with the suit, we got her expert stamp of approval as well. Travis looked great. I can't wait to see him all dressed up on the Big Day!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
